What that means in practice is small crews, small footprints and always researching the most sustainable options available for producing our content, building carbon-conscious, measurable methods into production from day one, so your films can live up to your values on screen and behind the camera. Greener, and provably so.
Our films are designed with impact in mind – when budget allows, that means developing an impact strategy with a clear Theory of Change. And we’re always ready to lend our skills and expertise to conservationists and communities directly on shoots – our projects are designed around being flexible enough to make that work.
Forest Spirit Media was founded by Tom Richards, a wildlife and conservation documentary producer with a history of producing award-winning blue chip and expedition–based natural history series such as Earth at Night in Color, Earthsounds and The Wild Ones.
He is also a co-organiser of the grassroots community Filmmakers for Future: Wildlife, where his work spans a range of intersectional issues relating to how wildlife filmmaking can do better for the natural world, including hosting talks on decolonising the wildlife filmmaking industry, to encouraging more impact across natural history productions, to making our industry more sustainable.
